Friends, family, motorsport fans, and kindhearted enablers,
Most people look at a 2015 Ford Focus hatchback and think, “That’s a practical commuter car.” We looked at it and thought, “What if we drove this thing … in a race… with hundreds of other lunatics… to raise awareness for ADHD?”
And that’s how Unfocused Performance was born — Gran Touring Motorsports’ amateur endurance racing team with a mission: Use the world’s most chaotic motorsport, the 24 Hours of Lemons, to spotlight ADHD awareness and support research.
Why ADHD?
Because ADHD is widely misunderstood, often underdiagnosed, and affects millions of people who deserve better tools, better research, and better representation. And because, frankly, the idea of a team called Unfocused Performance racing a Focus was too perfect to ignore.
What We Need
To compete safely and legally, we need to outfit our humble hatchback with the full suite of race‑approved safety gear, including:
- A professional roll cage
- Fire suppression system
- FIA‑rated halo seat
- 6‑point harnesses
- Window net, kill switch, and other required equipment
- And probably a few extra fire extinguishers, because… Lemons
All told, we need to raise $10,000 to get the car and the team race‑ready.
Where Your Support Goes
Every dollar helps us:
- Build a safe, compliant race car
- Cover entry fees and safety equipment
- Keep our drivers alive, upright, and (mostly) pointed in the right direction
And if we exceed our goal, any remaining funds will be donated to ADHD research and advocacy organizations. We want this project to do more than just get us on track — we want it to make a difference.
Join the “Wall of Focus” … get your Name on the Car!
We’ve created a special Patreon tier for supporters who want to join the team in spirit (and help us afford things like brake pads that won’t burst into flames).
A literal donor wall, but on a Ford Focus.
- On any donation tier: Receive an ADHD Awareness Ribbon (or Keychain Lanyard), a “You Kept Us Focused” appreciation certification, or maybe some other Team Schwag!
- For $5/month (or one-time annual pledge – 5% discount compared to monthly) you’ll get your name on the car!
- Maybe you’d like to name a part on the car? Or get your name on the fuel jug, fire extinguishers, spare tire, or other paddock item? We’re also open to Hidden messages under the hood; stop by an event and we’ll let you autograph them yourself!
- For $25/month: Larger name on the exterior “Wall of Focus” graphic; Logo or custom message (for businesses or generous friends)
- Top donors will be featured on a dashboard plaque which will be seen during the videos and livestreams.
- And since Lemons cars shed parts like autumn leaves, maybe we’ll have some weird motorsports artifacts to give away for the extra special donor … but let’s hope the car stays together.
Why This Matters
Endurance racing is unpredictable, exhausting, and requires constant adaptation — in other words, it’s a perfect metaphor for living with ADHD.
Our goal is to bring visibility, humor, and heart to a condition that deserves more understanding and more research.
If you’re able to support us… Thank you!
If you’re not… cheering us on, sharing our mission, or simply laughing at our questionable life choices is equally appreciated!
With gratitude, ambition, and probably too many project spreadsheets, ~ Team Unfocused Performance …And remember: “Because without YOU this wouldn’t be possible” – Crew Chief Brad.
