| 07/29/2017 | Austin Brantley | Austin Brantley, driving a: Ford Shelby GT500, Grey was coached by Brad Novack on 07/29/2017 for 1 days at: Shenandoah with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Needs more Coaching | N/A |
| 03/25/2018 | Brian Downey | Brian Downey, driving a: Ford Focus RS, White was coached by Michael Bowser on 03/25/2018 for 1 days at: NJMP-Lightning with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Needs more Coaching | Brian cares a lot about his very quick RS and takes some time to gain confidence. During our day on thunderbolt we had varying track conditions which allowed us to focus on finding grip, rotating the vehicle (some), and getting his wheel back to center quicker to power out of corners. During a rain session these all started to click and he gained some confidence throughout the afternoon. He is a good student who listens, but just needs to be pushed some to try new techniques (later breaking, rotating, more gas). He is out on the track to have a good time and drive his car home in 1 piece. |
| 07/08/2018 | Claire Fleisher | Claire Fleisher, driving a: Fiat, 500 (robin egg blue) was coached by Michael Bowser on 07/08/2018 for 1 days at: Pocono (Mega) with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Needs more Coaching | This was her first event. The vehicle is a quite slow, stock, fiat 500. For most of the day I had to talk her through each lap and give many reminders to keep her focused on what was coming up next. She had many of the first timer tendencies, the biggest being a real struggle to stay straight while braking rather than cheating and beginning to turn-in. She remained very positive throughout the day considering the slow vehicle and plans to attend Watkins Oct event. |
| 06/23/2018 | Cory Buckwell | Cory Buckwell, driving a: Mazda, Miata NB Turbo, (White) was coached by Eric Monterastelli on 06/23/2018 for 1 days at: Shenandoah with Eastern Motorsports Racing Association (EMRA) in Run Group: Red | Yes - soloed | Cory has past experience with AutoCross and a few track days, but had never been on Shenandoah. He’s a quick study and has excellent car control. Hand/Foot work are solid and situational awareness is great. The Miata is a middle pack runner getting as many points-bys as it gets. The Miata is also heavily modified with a (DIY) Turbo; it does suffer from some oil-heating issues and speeds need to be kept in check to keep the engine from over-heating. Cory tends to run the car very close to the limit of the headgasket (240 degrees Oil); I was able to solo him for his 3rd session and he had a blast. The passenger seat in the Miata is highly uncomfortable, the shoulders tend to pinch and the harnesses were a bit short. I could not fit with my Hans on, and without had enough harness length to belt in. (Soloed; TT license given) |
| 07/29/2018 | David Gatter | David Gatter, driving a: Mitsubishi Lancer FWD was coached by Brad Novack on 07/29/2018 for 1 days at: Shenandoah with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Needs more Coaching | David came in with one track day under his belt (NY safety track) on the Friday before this event. He had prior autocross experience as well. He came to the event with a specific goal of competing in a Chumpcar race 3-4 weeks from now, so he is looking to get in as many track events as possible before that.
David was smoother than most autocrossers when starting out but not perfect. His inputs and lines improved throughout the day. His driving line was very consistent when he was focused on being smooth and going a little slower. As he increased speed his lines started to change and he needed to be dialed back a little. At the beginning of the day he had a tendency to follow the car in front of him and also the cars behind him would cause his driving to diminish. When he was alone he was great. We worked on trying to be more consistent and smooth before adding speed. Even though the cars behind him got in his head, he was very good about knowing they were there and getting them by at the passing zones. However, sometimes he was too eager and gave point bys to people that weren’t close enough or ready to take it.
His best session of the day was by far the 3rd session. I didn’t have to say much and he was able to tell me what the car was doing and adjust his driving if he made a mistake. The fourth session he implemented shifting to 2nd to try and accelerate out of a couple turns quicker which was a challenge at the start of the session but improved by the end. However, he was tired (though he wouldn’t say it) and his driving had definitely shown it. He regressed in the last session and became a little more inconsistent as he attempted to add the new shifts and more speed. A couple corrective instructions and he was back on-line. The final session was combined with much faster cars and faster closing speeds. This also had an effect on his driving.
His next planned event is EMRA on August 4th and 5th. |
| 07/07/2018 | Dillon Dericks | Dillon Dericks, driving a: Subaru, Impreza Sedan WRX (Black) was coached by Eric Monterastelli on 07/07/2018 for 1 days at: Pocono (Mega) with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Maybe next time | Dillon is in his early 20s, but is one of the most calm/pragmatic and level headed post-graduates I’ve met in a long time. Both his father and brother were participating in the event with him and he’s just getting into the sport. Dillon has a real knack for HPDE and took direction well, enjoyed his time on track and we saw great improvement throughout the day. Had he been signed up for 2-days I would have had no problem in working with him on going A-solo. I’m reluctant to quickly promote him to B, even though his passing/SA are good. I just think he would benefit from more instructed time on various tracks. |
| 10/28/2017 | Dirk Diviney | Dirk Diviney, driving a: Ford Mustang GT (Blue) was coached by Ron Shurie on 10/28/2017 for 1 days at: Dominion with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | | N/A |
| 07/29/2017 | Erin Kelly | Erin Kelly, driving a: Ford Mustang ECOboost (Burgandy) was coached by Sam Harrington on 07/29/2017 for 1 days at: Shenandoah with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | | I picked up Erin as a student and she did very well the day I had her. She was a minor crash the day before in some tricky conditions, but it did not seem to be an issue for her when she went back out with me. She had already a good knowledge of how to get around Shenny by the time she became my student and he had a decent grasp on the limits of the car, but the car had more braking and grip available. Erin was quick and she recognized her mistakes and she was able to correct them, she was passing all but a couple cars in the group and she knew when to give and take point bys. She was calm when she broke a little late heading in the carousel, she calmly took the top apron around the top when she knew she could not make the turn. Her situational awareness was good the entire day.
She needed to improve her shifting, she had trouble with a few upshifts and some downshifts were “jerky”. She needs some heel to practice to smooth things out. |
| 08/19/2017 | Erin Kelly | Erin Kelly, driving a: Ford Mustang ECOboost (Burgandy) was coached by Eric Monterastelli on 08/19/2017 for 1 days at: VIR (South) with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A-solo | Yes - soloed | Erin is a quick learner and really pushes herself to “do perfect” ; VIR south was a small event and she was able to handle running in mixed A/B sessions, as well as her first time out as a solo driver. Erin still needs to work on her breaking zones (braking later) and her heel-toe downshifts. Practicing heel-toe trackside is never advised, so I worked with Erin to lengthen her breaking time to drop the engine speed down to a point where a slow downshift would remove the “chrip” of the rear-end locking up; best compromise at the time. |
| 10/13/2017 | Erin Kelly | Erin Kelly, driving a: was coached by Michael Crutchfield on 10/13/2017 for 2 days at: Watkins Glen with HookedOnDriving (HOD) in Run Group: A | Yes - promoted | Erin is a machine in terms of following directions and wants to talk herself through every part of the track after she has been instructed on how to go through it. Usually this is good because it lets you see how well she has absorbed the material but at times it can interfere with the desire to give corrections/make adjustments. Still needs to learn heel-toe. I rode with her all but the last session of Saturday (Friday she had Joe Mills) getting her consistent and then Eric took out her for the last session. Then Ken did her B-group check-ride the following day and she rode in B solo the rest of the event. (B group advancement with Ken Eviner giving check ride) |
