Build a modified Mk5-7 VW (Street/AutoX/Track)

Share

This build out covers the 2006-Current MK5-7 Volkswagens

We’ve broken down what you’d need to do to your MK5-7 to get it track ready

**NOTE: The stages outlined below tend to be cumulative. For example, if you’re considering a Stage-3 build, you will be have to use some if not most of the upgrades from Stage-1 and Stage-2. For overlapping mods like suspension, you can skip to the higher stage, but pay attention to how the “set” comes together.

Stage 1 – Better than Stock (Autocross-able)

Description
Part No. | Category | Purchase Thru | MSRP
Brake Fluid – start with upgrading to a brake fluid that can handle the higher temps on the track. Motul RBF 600 is a solid starting place.
Brakes$17.00 per 500ml
Brake Pads – switch to a high-performance street compound like an EBC Yellowstuff Pad
Brakes$170.00
Sway Bars – this can be debated but upgrading an adjustable rear sway bar will make the vehicle much more “tossable” and reduce understeer bias. Hotchkis, APR, and Whiteline all offer similar products. (start with the bar on the lowest setting when on stock suspension)
Suspension$220.00
ECU Tuning – we would suggest leaving the car at stock power levels, however, easy power gains are tough to ignore. A Stage 1 tune can be installed with a stock set up (Intake upgrade encouraged). APR, Unitronic, REVO all offer similar options, We recommend APR if you are east coast due to New German Performance and dealerships with tuning capabilities. Stage 1 should provide cars with 25-50whp and 60-120wtq depending on which generation of vehicle.
EngineNew German Performance
$599.00
Intake – to go along with the tune a CAI upgrade should be considered.
Engine$250-500
Tires – upgrading to an aggressive 200tw or better summer tire is a necessity.
Tires$140 per
