MGY – Celebration of Life

Friends, Racers and VIPs… we would like to take a moment to update you with some new details on Matthew’s celebration of life.

Matthew G. Yip (1966-2021)

In case you’re reading this for the first time, as you might know Matthew had been struggling and striving through his battle with Kidney failure for many years. On 11/15/2021, we were informed that he was found at home, on the couch, in a state of eternal rest.

On April 2, 2022, we will celebrate the life of Matthew Yip and wish him Godspeed. Family and Friends will gather for two memorials:

Memorial Service & Reception (@ Piccadilly Public House, 1pm)

• A service and reception at Piccadilly Public House starting at 1:00pm.
• There will be a short service delivered by Pastor Dave Young of Bethel Lutheran Church
• Light appetizers and beverages will be served
• Family and friends are invited to celebrate him through stories and memories that only someone like Matthew could create

Missing Man Ceremony (@ Summit Point Raceway, 4:30pm)

Starting at 4:30pm, a memorial and special ceremony for Matthew will be hosted by the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America (WDCR—SCCA) at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WVA.

• Matthew was an influential individual that championed amateur and professional racing around the country
• As a prelude to the last heat race of the day, Matthew’s former friends and competitors will complete a “Missing Man” formation prior to the start
• After the conclusion of the race, there will be an invocation followed by a “Happy Hour” with food and beverage where all are welcome
• PLEASE NOTE: WDCR SCCA staff will direct you to a designating parking area and assist you/transport you trackside for the ceremony.
