What Should I Buy? – Future Classics

Share

Seeking that first collector car is exciting, but daunting with all the choices on the market.  There are a number of genres to choose from ranging from the early 1900s to the 2010s, and subcategories like sportscar, muscle car, luxury car, utilitarian car, sedan, wagon, convertible, popular or lesser known, foreign or domestic – and picking that first collector car can be tough enough without trying to take into account investment gains.  Fear not, first timer – we’ve all been there, and we’re here to help!

GTM’s Break/Fix podcast has a sub series called “What Should I Buy?” where panels of knowledgeable enthusiasts get together and debate about whatever the presented “Shopping Criteria” is.  This episode is dedicated to helping enthusiasts seeking their first collector car to better “home in” on what tickles their fancy.  But, the episode comically unravels very quickly taking into consideration all the different genres and eras of “collector cars” that are available!  Are we talking pre-war, post-war, muscle car, malaise era, or something more modern?  Of course, this also begs the question, “what exactly *IS* a collector car?”   With my help, and a panel of esteemed guests such as Mark Shank from the ’90s WSIB episode, Rob Parr from Collector Car Guide, and Chris Bright from Collector Part Exchange, we think we can solve the puzzle and come up with some great suggestions for the first-time collector car buyer.

In our discussion with the WSIB Panel, we cover topics like:

  • Best pre-war classics
  • Best post-war, pre-gas crisis classics Euro or Domestic
  • Best Muscle cars
  • Underappreciated or Hopeful classics > Prospecting
  • Classics for under $50k – Affordable Classics
  • Classics between $50-100k – Investments
  • and much, much more!
