A laughable childhood limerick, but definitely the theme for the last 3 weekends. The weather has not disappointed and we’re back in action! In case you’re still hibernating, let’s recap what you’ve missed over the last couple of weeks.
March 23rd Weekend | |
HookedOnDriving (HOD) kicks off the Track Season with 2 days at NJMP Thunderbolt! GTM introduced the “Where you at?” feature on the website so you can see who went or who is going to upcoming Motorsports Events! Check out the entire HOD NE Schedule and be sure to not miss out on our Summer Bash event in conjunction with HOD in late June.
Members Matt Y and Shane S attend SCCA’s Club Racing School on Summit Point Main Circuit. We’re happy to see Matt back out there and congratulate him on a successful weekend, and a great job holding off the GrandAM Mustangs for 2 consecutive starts in his ITS Honda Civic.
March 30th Weekend | |
GTM veteran instructors return to SCCA’s Instructor Boot Camp to aid in training new Instructor Candidates and prepare them for the 2019 HPDE season. Congratulations to members Joe O and Baron M as they take on new responsibilities at SCCA and to Region-3 Chief Tania M (left) for passing the course and becoming a newly minted SCCA instructor! “It was overall a good day that managed to be fun despite the busy schedule. In my opinion you don’t walk away from the experience truly prepared to sit in the right seat. Developing your instructor skills takes practice. Every situation – student, car, track, weather, state of mind – will always be different every time you get in in the right seat. What you do walk away with is an appreciation for how different sitting in the right seat truly is. Despite requiring a lot of faith to put your life in the hands of a stranger, its a complete mind set change of how you view the track and how you effectively and efficiently communicate with another person.” – Tania M
YIKES! – Member Judd G suffers an #epicfail on the way to the SCCA Adv. PDX. Hitting an unidentified-lying-object in the the early hours of the morning on his way to Summit Point, breaking the left front axle and puncturing his transmission.
Special thanks to member Dan S for sourcing a new 6-speed trans for Judd’s VW Jetta on short notice and establishing a new relationship for GTM with TLCT Motorworks out of Hagerstown, MD. | Check out the continuing coverage on Judd’s trans here. |
Half-way across the world, some of the most exciting racing on TV: WRC Round 4: Corsica and F1 Bahrain GP happened while you were sleeping in. Tuning in with the free RedBullTV app you can (re)catch all of the action! Over the years, the tiny island of Corsica has never failed to provide some of the best stories in the WRC! But be sure to ask member Sam H why “Indy Car is the best Racing on TV!” – meanwhile, we’re still waiting for the IMSA season to come into full swing, but so far 2019 is shaping up well. | Be sure to RSVP for our LeMans 2019 Viewing Party. |
In case you missed it, we got the chance to review an ’80’s rally hero: the famed Renault 5 Turbo II – be sure to catch the full review of this epic ride. More classic car reviews are scheduled for later this season, so stay tuned to our new “test drives” article series.
GTM is a club, and clubs need help from their members to continue operating and existing. We’ve made a lot of great enhancements to our online and social media presence. We completely revamped the website, established an online picture warehouse, set up the slack chat system, and streamlined the event registration system, to name a few. We are a resourceful group and we take pride in the things we are able to accomplish with the limited resources we have. But we can’t do it all alone. We need help. | Help us continue to bring you quality events and features!

April 6th Weekend | |
With nearly 20 people in attendance, we kicked off a new event with GearWrench Tools. Congrats to GTM’s “Porsche Al” and CCA’s Pat Rooney for winning our Raffle. And check out the grin on member Brian S’s face (right) as he wins the grand prize from GearWrench! Pictures from this event are available via the Vault. We can’t thank Melissa and Kevin from GearWrench enough for hosting us and we look forward to seeing them again later this season! Stay tuned for updates #summerbash5 | “It was a great event and so nice meeting you, your colleagues and friends and the folks at GearWrench. All of us from CCA enjoyed the day. The tools are amazing, and the vast number of items are staggering. I think it would be great to have GearWrench at our car show!” – Van Vander Haar, Corvette Club of America. |
“BC Brewery was amazing. We had a great time meeting new friends and visiting. Their beer is awesome too.” – Van Vander Haar Our BC Brewery Happy Hour was EXCELLENT! – With 20 self-service beers on tap, yummy food and great company we had a fantastic time sharing stories and making new plans with our friends from the Corvette Club of America. Pictures from this event are available via the Vault.

It wouldn’t be a proper season kick-off for GTM without our annual pilgrimage to the DC Auto Show. And in keeping with tradition we played a couple rounds of “I fits, I sits” with Brad N. For the record, he does fit in a Fiat 124 Spyder, just not with the top up or with any ability to use the pedals! #broomsticktest IT EXISTS! – we got to see the long awaited for Toyota Supra up close – along with other vehicles like the new Jeep Gladiator and Ford Ranger (which we reviewed earlier this year). Pictures from this event are also available via the Vault. |
We hope that just like the flowers, we see more of you blooming from your winter slumbers and being able to join us for more events this season! Until then…
